Is Ultrasound Safe?
Ultrasound is a form of medical imaging that has been around since 1979.  No definite evidence for adverse pregnancy outcome has been reported.  Since there is a theoretical chance for potential harm, it is not recommended to be used for entertainment purposes.

How many ultrasounds should I expect during my pregnancy?
This depends on your physician and pregnancy history. You can expect at least two ultrasounds, one in the first trimester and second ultrasound in the second trimester.

What is genetic counseling
Genetic counselor are most commonly board certified/eligible health care professionals with specialized graduate degrees and experience in the areas of medical genetics and counseling. Genetic counselors work as members of a health care team, providing information and support to families and to help them understand inherited conditions and how genetics screening/testing could affect them and their families. They identify families at risk, investigate the problem present in the family, interpret information about the disorder, analyze inheritance patters and risks of recurrentce and review and available options with the family. Do I need to draw a Quadscreen for my patient after she has a Firstscreen, started the Integrated or Sequential screen? If your patient had a Firstscreen drawn, then you just need to draw a MSAFT during the second trimester. If you patient had the first part of the integrated screen or the first part of a Sequential screen drawn, then for FDIP patients, they will have their second blood draw at their follow-up ultrasound appointment. For neighbor island physicians, they will be faxed a special test request form for the second part of the screenings.

Yes, Dr. Hirata and both of his ultrasound technicians are certified to measure the nuchal translucency that is part of these screenings.

Does my patient need a full bladder for her procedure?
No.  None of our patients require a full bladder for their procedures.

How soon can i expect to receive an ultasound report following my patient's appointment?
We can fax you the ultrasound report the same day if requested by your office.  Otherwise, the report will be placed in the daily outgoing mail.

What is your qualification to do ultrasound?
We have combine 40 years of experience OB and GYN ultrasound and have to recently been certified by the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine to perform both OB and GYN ultrasounds.
